In the Magistrate's Court Robert Candling Hacking, formerly adjufcant of the 3rd Auckland Regiment, was charged with leaving failed to produce to the Audit 1 , Office a receipt for the sum of £25 dritwn on maintenance account. Defendant adnjitted the offence. The cheqiies were cashed at the hotel where hoi stayed. He stated that tha money was used in the regiment's behalf. ■ Ho had been kept very busy with Tegumental affairs, and could not say what; had become of the receipts. He had arranged to refund the money this month. Tho Magistrate siiid tho charge was. laid under the Public Revenue Act. The amount of the fine as fixed by the statute—£loo—was imposed.
