M'Laren and G. Williams, Captain C. 11: Orr Walker was the military representative. Medically Unlit. llichard .Alexander Robertson, carpouter and joiner, had applied on the previous day for three months' suspension on tho ground of undue/hardship, and he had been directed to go before a Medical Board. An Apprentice's Appeal, Frederick Hugh Jamieson, engineering apprentice, appealed for suspension in order_.that lie might- completo his period of apprenticeship. Mr. E. C. Levvoy, who appeared.on behalf of appellant, said! that Jamieson had. no wish to avoid service, bub the circumstances were unusual. ' The position had been explained to Captain Walker. The appeal was supported by the employers, Messrs. Cable and Company. Captain Walker said that Jamieson was completing his fifth year as an apprentice, and wished to sit for examination during the first week in April. He had not been at sea for a year, but prior to that he had six or seven years' deep sea service; Ho did not think he should be sent into the Expeditionary Forces in view of the fact that the military authorities would not let him join the naval branch. Appellant,- it appeared, had no firsthand information as to the reason why his offer to join the Motor Boat Patrol had not been accepted. He had hoard that seamen were not allowed to. join, since they were required in New Zealand.

The Chairman: : "You' have no other ground of appeal?" .•!.,: ',• ..'• Appellant: "I want to lie put in the placo where I would be most useful.
