MAGISTRATE'S COURT

Mr. W. G. Riddell, S.M., presided over a sitting of the Magistrate's Court yesterday morning. For insobriety, Michael Richardson, Thomas P. Egan, and Thomas Adams were each fined 10s. Phyllis Mollis, for a-similar offence, was ordered to pay 17s. Gd., costs of medical treatment.

Frank Hunt pleaded guilty to tlio theft of a lady's handbag, and was fined 405., the alternative being seven days' imprisonment. On a charge of theft of clothing, he asked to be tried by a jury, and was remanded to January 3. John 'William Marshall, John Henry Greig, and Alexander Waters wore ■ remanded to January 3 on a charge of breaking and entering the storeroom of the New Zcalander Hotel by day and stealing liquor therefrom. James Steven O'Neill, Jeremiah M'Mahon, and Henry Ernest George Solway appeared on remand on charges of assault causing actual bodily harm, and were further remanded to January 3. Henry F. M'llroy was remanded to January 3 on a charge of theft from the person. . Harold Glanville l was fined 10s. for doing wilful damage to a pane of glass, and was ordered to make good the damage. , ' . Henry Joseph was convicted of insobriety, and discharged, and for using obscone language in Willis Street waß fined 40s. / ' . James Brown was fined 10s. for insobriety, and ordered to pay £1 2s. 6d., tlio value of a pair of trousers wliioli he was charged with having wilfullydamaged. For using obsccno language in a public bar, Ereatara Nia Nia was fined 40s;, while for wilfully damaging Government property ho was ordered to pay Bs. 6d., the value of the property damaged. He was also convicted of insobriety, and discharged. Harriet Malone.v, charged with being an idle and disorderly person, habitually consorting with reputed prostitutes, was 'remanded till to-day, bail being allowed. 1
