SLIPS ON MAIN TRUNK LINE

Auckland, Decombor 27. Tho slips which occurred on the Main Trunk lino on Tuesday afternoon and ovening near Horopito, six mil.es north, of Ohakune, liad the effect of delaying the arrival at Auckland of the early niorning. Maiu. Trunk expresses by, about 4i hours. The two slips which occurred vera, directly due to a thunderstorm, accom-. panied by heavy rain, which swept over the Oliakimo district on Tuesday afternoon about threo o'clock. The first slip: was a small one; it came down in tho cutting near the viaduct between Horopito and Ohakune, and was cleared by 8 p.m. Shortly afterwards, however, a much larger slip came down in the samo spot and a largely increased gang was necessary to deal with tho obstruction. It was attacked energetically, and by 2 a.m. to-day through communis cation had been restored.
