' The members of the Ministry are most of thorn out of Wellington at present. The Hon. W. H. Herries, the Hon. A. M. Myers, and the Hon. WFraser are in .the Auckland district, Mr. Myore in the city and the other two Ministers travelling. The Hon. W. D. S. Mac Donald. is at his home in Gisborne district, and 1 the Hon. Dr. M'Nab has been in his own electorate at Hastings for Christmas, but he returned to Wellington last night. The Hon. A. L. Herman is, away from Wellington for the holidays. The Hon. J. A. Hanan is at lnvercargill. The Hon. J. Allen, the Hon. G. W. Russell, and the' Hon. Sir Francis Bell are in Wellington. Sir Robert Stout and Lady Stout returned from the South Island "yesterday. An Australian and New Zealand Cable Association message received last evening states that Mr. Austin Quick, son of the late Mr. W. H;_ Quick, of Wellington, has been killed in action. A Press Association telegram reports that Mr. Frank Rhodes, solicitor, who had been a resident of Rotorua, for sixteen years, died on Tuesday night after a very long illness. His age was 54. Mr. Scott manager for J. and .N. Tait, arrived from the north yesterday to make arrangements for the forthcoming season of "The Sentimental Bloke." Corpl. W. I'\ Suckling, of the 4th Otago Company, Ninth Reinforcements, and second son of Mr. W. H. Suckling, of Wellington, who wounded at the Sonimo on Soptember 15, returned by the Maheno last week, and will enter ill© Hospital on Saturday next to undergo a further operation to his knee. Corpl. Suckling was formerly chief officer in the. service of the Union. Company, a position he resigned in order to enlist. M. Leon Hippeau, who has been appointed Vice-Consul for France in New Zealand, in succession to M. Julien Rigoreau, arrived in Auckland by the Makma, on Monday, accompanied by Madame Hippeau. M. Hippeau held a Consular position at Havana prior to being appointed Vice-Consul for Now Zealand. Official advice has been received of tho death in action on September.2l of Pte. Albert Macauley, of Wellington. Pte. Macauley, in company with three other brothers (William, Percy James, and George), left with tho Ninth Reinforcements, and! since then tho family has certainly earned a place of honour on the list of New Zealand's fighting families. He was a member of tho Selwyn and Newtown Football Clubs. Pte. Percy Macauley was so severely wounded that it was found necessary to amputate ono of his legs. Tho mother of these fighting men, Mrs. Macauley (widow of the late.Mr. Tlios. Henry Macauley) has received advice that her son George is at CVxMord, but his case lias nofc yet boon diagnosed, " Advice has been received in Wellington of the death at the front from wounds of Mr. J. Egan, at one time a member of the literary stafE .of The Dominion.
Mr. Charles Tringham, scnr., who died at Pigeon Bush on Monday, was bom in Herefordshire, England, in 1841, and in 1864 camo out to Wellington, where lie practised as an architect until 1889, when he bought. the Pigeon Bush Estate, and retired from business. In 1868 he married a daughter of Dr. John Bennett, the first Reg-istrar-General of New Zealand, and in 1904 he married liis ) second wife (a daughter of Mr. John'M'Neill, of Dunedin). who survives him. For many years he lived at Oriental Bay, of which ho was one of tho\first settlers. He leaves a family of three sons and one daughter—Messrs. C. VT. Trjngham, solicitor, Wellington; W. Triughaiu, of Detroit, U.S.A.; F. S. Tringham, of Portsmouth, England; 'and Mrs. Costello, wife of Mr. E. T. Costello, of the Bank of Australasia, Masterton. . 4
The death is announced of Mr. A. A. Gordon Croll, who died at his residence, 145 Abel Smith Street, on Saturday. The lato Mr. Croll had been on a health-recruiting trip to Australia, and only returned three wcoks ago, when ho suddenly collapsed. The deceased was well known throughout New Zealand, he having represented the firm of Messrs. E. W. Mills and Co. for many years. He leaves a widow, three daughters, and two sons. Mrs. A. W. Gleadall and Miss Tj. Croll (Perth, W.A.), Mrs. P. 0. Palmer (Karaka Bay). Mr. A. W. Croll (Sydnev\ and Mr. D. Croll (Wellington). The interment took place lit Karori Cemetery on Sunday.
