T: : - ' WEATHER PROSPECTS GOOD. ' Up till Monday night the weather for the Christmas season had. been ideal.: The whole of last week Wellington people enjoyed quite remarkably food weather—a succession of-still, hot ays—and on Saturday .the record , still held. The streets and the shops-, and' the place's of amusement were fbronged through! the long day and evening. On Sunday tho sun was still shining in. a clear sky, and the warmth was more than generous. Christmas Day broke with grey skies and a light? southerly wind, but in a. few hours the clouds dispersed and the day was beautifully fresh and yet mild. The prospects for to-day, so far. as the un-' scientifio layman can judge, are good.The wind died down to a very light air with the setting of the sun,'and the evening sky was peaceful.. The locaf attractions for Boxing Day are not many, so .that mo6t people will find it best to spend the day in some indendent. excursion- .-or picnio. On. these Dog Days the beaches claim their thousands, and' if the weather holds, a good many thousands of young and old will be-found sporting on the wave-washed sands 011 both sides.of the harbour M-dtiy. The Federation have organised a great picnic ..at Karori Park, which is sure to he attended by. tho Catholic community in very large numbers.' Maidstone Park, at Upper Hutt, is available for picnics throughout the holidays, and many parties will make use of the privilege if the weather holds good. The only sporting event of note close at hand is the Manawatu Racing Club's meeting at Awapuni, to-day bemg the first day of the meeting. _ ■ ' In. the eveniug tho Williamson firm are opening at tho Opera House a season of musical comedy, and there will he the special picture entertainments at the King's, Queen's, Empress,, •and Everybody's Theatre, and an attractive vaudeville programme at His Majesty's Theatre.
