Giving evidence at the magisterial trial of Patrick Kiely, charged with the murder of George Dodd, Detectivo Butler deposed to asking accused if he wanted a solicitor. Dodd got three bottles, md he got one. The threo drank one bottle, and Dodd said he would -keep the three for Sunday, and told them they had 1 better go away. They were getting full, and so was he. He fold Wem he would get a policeman if they did not go. Kiely saidl ho did not remember any moro after that until 'Joe' (Wainwright) came to the camp and said his mate was dead. He went to see, and 'Joe' said, 'You have killed him.' They said, 'Something must have been said l to make me angry.' He asked why Wainwright had not stopped him, and 'Joe' said, he had turned on him ('Joe') and stabbed, him. Accused went on to say he had been drinking, and it had a bad effect on. him. He had a very, bad! memory,' and could! do a thing and forget all 'about it next minute! Later on in the police office two knives found at camp were placed on a table, and accused 1 , pointing to a blood-stained knife, said, "That is my knife. He had told the policeman a lie about the knife.- He had.bought stores on Saturday nit;lit.
