Shortly before noon yesterday the Willaston arrived in port from Newcastle, and berthed at No. 2 Glasgow Wharf. The Willaston, an insulated vessel, is running under charter to the Shaw, fiavill, and Albion Company. She left Newcastle at 7 p.m. last Thursday, and light winds and fine weather were experienced until about a day out from New Zealand, when tho weather freshened up, and hcayy seas were ciicountered. An interesting point about this vessel is that while in Australia' she was run for some time on wood fuel. Speaking to a Dominion . reporter yesterday, the chief officer stated that the Willaston was run from Melbourne to Sydney and from Sydney to Newcoetlo on wood fuel. At first this method of raising steam was (i success, but in the run. from Syrt* ncy to Newcastle hard work was eiperii enced i* tho stokehold trying to keep ■ steam up. An attempt w«.s to have been mode to bring the Willaston from Newcastle to Wellington on wood fuel, but the coal strike ending enough coal was secured to bring her over without. A auantity wood which was to have been used has been put out on the Wellington wharf.
Captain W. H. Jones, vlio is in charge of the vessel, has as?ociatcd with him the following officers:—Chief, Mr. W. R. S. Branasait; second, Mr. C. Myers; third, Mr. K. A. Oosta; cliief cugiacer, Mr. A.
Stark; second, Sir. S. Shaw; third, Mr. A. Freer; fourth, Mr. S. Abbey. "No wireless operator is carried, and the whole of tho rest of the crew are Chinc&o.

She may be delayed at Auckland owing to it being holiday time, but w expected hero about, the end of next week. CHRISTMAS SHIPPING. The Union Company announce tho following movements of vessels: — The Monowai is duo here on Thursday, and sails at 6 p.m. the samo day for Lyttelton with tcaops on leave. She returns hero on Saturday, sailing the same day for Lyttelton and Dunedin. The Tarawera is due this morning, ond 'ails to-night for Lyttelton with troops on leave. Sho is due back on Friday night, and will take another lot of troops south. She leaves Lyttelton on Saturday with excursionists, and due here on Sunday. She leaves ■Wellington on Monday for Napier, Gisboi'ne, and Auckland. The Paloona. will be recommissioned at Duncdin on JiyttA-ry $• =L n !l. wiu ru , n . two trips from Dunodin to Wellington, bringing troops on leave. It is expected that she will leave Wellington on January 6, in her bid Melbourne time-table. booking has been brisk at the company's offices, and no accommodation is left on the Mararoa. leaving here on Thursday. ' The Takapuna, leaving here on Friday for Picton and Nelson, can take no more Nelson passengers, but M available for Picton passengers. RAUPO SAILS. After being in Lyttelton a few weeks from San Francisco, the barquo Raupo (ex Louisa Oraig) left Lyttelton on SatnTday morning with a load of iproducG for Auckland. Her future movements aro uncertain, although it is pTohable that she will go next to Australia. During the past few days the vessel lias been short of her full complement of .snilors. and those that could be found to fill the positions put a high value on their services. Ilowcvcr, as tlio vessel was ready for sea, and as the owners did not wish lier to be delayed, the men, it is understood. had their terms accepted. It is stated that four sailors who signed on for the run between Lyttelton and Auckland. are to receive £15 cacli when they Tench the northern port. Provided the Hnlino makes a good passage, and she i« likely to do so, seeing that she is one of the fastest vessels of lier class in Australasian waters, and that she was docked during her stay in port, this rate of pay, so far as the men themselves are concerned, should ho considered highly satisfactory. With good weather, the Rauno should reach Auckland early this week.
OIiARI PROM LIVERPOOL. The Orari left Liverpool on November 16 for Melbourne, Sydney, Auckland, and Wellington. She is expected at the northern port about the end of January.
NO WORD OF THE CENTURY. Up till midnight last night thero was no sign of the Century from New York. The vessel left tho American port on November 4, and was originally expected hero oarly last week. Messrs. G. Scales, •Ltd., advised that she. would bo Cstf here last Sunday, but eo fer she has not put in an appearance. Her berth has now been changed, jnd she will tie up at No. 16 Jervois Qua? Breastwork, Instead of at tho Queen's Wharf.
The' Himitangi leaves,. Lyttelton to-day for Wellington. She stays here until early in tho new year, when slio goes direct to the Chatham Islands. The baTquentino Wanganui,•; which left Kaipara late last month for Sydney,, is now discharging cargo at the Australian nort. According to the Sydney "Shipping 'List" she has been fixed to load at Newcastle for Auckland, and will afterwards take cargo ftom Auckland for Melbourne. Repairs to the mast of tho barquentine 'Senorita, whioh was sprung while unloading recently, wcro completed late last week, and the vessel left Auckland on Monday for Sydney.
