MEETING OF THE COUNCIL.

ordinary meeting of tho City Council was held last night. There wero present the Mayor (Mr. J. P. Luke), Councillors W. H. P. Barber, J. Gotlber,'J. Hutcheson, A. R. Atkinson, w. J. Thompson, L. M'Kenzie, W. H. Bennett, M. Luckie, T. Bush, W. A. Veiteh, It. A. Wright, M.P., W. T. Hildreth, and J. E. Fitzgerald. It,was decided that six months' notice, in accordance with agreement, be given to Hall Bros, to terminate the lease of the premises occupied by them in Manners Street.

A request that children's tram fares be altered to allow two children to travel on one ticket on a single section was not granted.

It was decided that a number of lockers lie erected in the ladies'- hathfhg shea at JLyall Bay for the storage of money and valuables, the fee for the liso of same being fixed at 3d. per hour, with a deposit of Is. for the key.

To was resolved also that the present charge of 3d. for the use of the lookers'in'tho men's shed he altered to 3d. per 'hour. The tender of Magnus, Sanderson and Co., Ltd., for the lease of Lot 35 anu Part Lot 34, Reserve K, ToAro' Reclamation, the only tender received', was accepted. The tender, £3 per foot, was equal to the upsot. Tho following report of tho Public ITcaali Committee -was adopted:—That as tho milk inspector (Mr. G. A. Lawrence) cannot see his way to remain in the position, tho committee called for applications for the vacancy; in view ot tho authority granted at the last meeting of tho council. Twentyfour applications were received, and after consideration, Mr. F. W. Rawlinson, of ITaiper, was selected. ThX applicant has had valuable experience with the Health Department, and is recommended by Dr. Smith, Wellington District Health Officer. The salary is £160 per annum, plus war bonus.
