MASTERTON NOTES
At a meeting of tho Hydro-Electrical Investigation Committee, held in Masterton on Saturday, Mr. J. C. Cooper was elected chairman of tho c< mmittec, and Mr. F. W. Pointon secretary. A sub-committee was appointed to endeavour to securo the necessary funds (estimated at £500) to carry cut a preliminary investigation. All factories throughout tho district are to he circularised with a view to securing financial assistance. About £250 has already been promised.
A carnival held in connection with St. Bride's Convent last week realised a sum of £290.
Mr. G. R. Sykes, M.P., has been *d-. vised by the Railway Department that it is proposed to institute Saturday afternoon troop trains from Featherston Camp to Mastorton, commencing on January 6. The trains v,lll reach Masterton shortly after noon, and will return on tho same evening. A young man named Grantham sustained a fractured jaw and other injuries by.falling from a bicycle at the Waingawa bridge on Sunday morning. A considerable number of rinks have already entered for tho bowling totrnauient to he held at Masterton on January 1 and 2.
Two cricket matches with teams from the Featherston Camp were played in Masterton on Saturday. Masterton "B" team defeated the A.S.S. by 76 runs, and the Artillery defeated Masterton "A" team by 182 runs.
