The Engine-drivers, Firemen, and Cleaners' Union passed motions at a meoting yesterday calling the attention of the Government to tho huge profits of producers and commercial people, and asking that the excess profits tax bo furthor increased; also protesting against the severity of tho sentence passed on Robert Semple for a first offence.

At a meeting held under tho auspices of the Wellington Social Democratic ■Party, a resolution was carried ■unanimously protesting against the sentence passed upon Robert Semple for seditious utterances.
