ANTARCTIC RELIEF EXPEDITION
SIR ERNEST SHACKLETON JOINS THE AURORA. The Hon. Dr. M'Nab left for the > south last night with Sir Ernest Shackleton, who is going to Port Chalmers to join the Aurora. The Aurora will sail on Wednesday morning, and Sir Ernest Shackleton will sail with her. It has been oommoii: knowledge. for many weeks that there were delicate negotiations in progress regarding this relief expedition, but these negotiations were successfully ended yesterday, when Dr. M'Nab, after consultation with Sir Ernest Shackleton, addressed to him abetter containing his proposals, aud in an hour or two Lieutenant Shackleton communicated, his . acceptance of them. This • arrangement was ratified by Cabinet in the afternoon. Captain Davis will navigate the ship, and Sir Ernest Shaokle- ' ton will take charge of shore operations when the ship reaches her destination in tho Ross Sea. _ Tho negotiations have from the beginning been extremely delicate, but everybody con r cerned has displayed commendable tact with the happy result as above stated.
