EXCITING FINISH AT BASIN RESERVE EAST BEATS TRENTHAM Cricket at the Basin Reserve on Saturday was eiciting. On the previous Saturday Trenthani, in thoir match against East, • ran up 261 runs. East's innings fell two short of that tally. Trentham's socond venture realised only 91 runs, so that East needed only Mto win. Howover, thero was only 55 minutes to. get Hie runs in. Condliffe and Baker went in at 5.50 to begin the race with the clock. Baker's wicket fell early, and Gibbes replaced hiin. Gibbes and Condliffe played fine free cricket, and with about 12 minutes to spare passed tho necessary 91. Urged by some of the crowd to finish the over, the batsmen consented. Condliffe hit a six, and then got caught out. Old Boys had a three-point win over Institute. Petone had 110 difficulty in securing a three-point win over University, they winning by eight wickets and su runs. Batting for University, Smith made 24, and Birch, Uttley, and Burns (not out) each made 12 Hutt and North concluded their game, North winning by an innings and 153 rune.
