GERMANS PLAN TO DISPLACE LYONS SILK

A telegraphic report received from the Japanese Consul at Lyons (says tho "Japan Times") states that prior to tlic outbreak of the war Lyons was the principal market for Turkish cocoons au<l silk, but of late the Central Powers have launched an enterprise to rob Lyons of this line of business by importing cocoons and silk direct from Turkey .and Bulgaria and feeding their filatures with them. Already a party of silk men in Germany and Austria lias visited Browses, in Asia Minor, under the protection of their Governments and Chambers of Commerce, and investigated the practicability of this scheme. Tho Central Powers have also established various corporations in their own countries for the purpose of developing sericulture in Turkey, and Bulgaria and drawing on those countries for the raw material required by silk men in their own countries. Among others at Crefeld, Prussia, a company styled tho "Lcvante-Seiden Gesseisciiaft'_' lias been established, with a capital of 700.000 marks, to carry out tho official designs. At Vienna also a company witlf a capital of 1,800,000 krones was established some time ago for the same purpose: It is styled the "Scidenrohstolfzentralo A.G."
