GONSALEZ OPERA CO.
"IL TROVATOEE" AND "FAUST." The Gonsalez Opera Company gave two performances on Saturday that went further to endorse the good opinion that has been formed of..the' merits of this excellent combination. On afternoon 'II Trovatore" was played'for the third time, and again Verdi's .tuneful opera gave great pleasure. By this time the public should be seized of the fact that in Signor Capelli, -who sang the music of M<mrico, the company has a tenor of transcendent qualities. His velvet voice, perfectly produced, and alive with those sympathetic graces which compel hdmiration, is heard to distinct advantage in the many solos and concerted music with which tho opera abounds. Enthusiasm was created by his singing in tlie "Ah, cho la Morte" duet, which was received with enthusiasm. Signorina de Rovers -was tho Leonore, and Signorina Russ was heard to advantage as Azuccna. Another most admirable performance was that of Signor Scanmzzi as Count dl Luna, whilst Signor Cacialli sang splendidly tho opening solo given to Ferrente.
In. tlio evening "Faust" was jcpeated, with Signorina Visoni as Marguerite, Signor Balboni as Faust, Signor Cacialli as Meplusto, and Count Filippini as Valentine. Tho audience, which was a large one, thoroughly enjoyed tho performance.
This evening tho company is to give its first performanco here of "Mignon," Ambtoso Thomas's charming -opera, which lias not been heard in New Zealand for thiry years. The leading characters will be Signora Gonsalez us Mignon, and Signor ,Balboni as Wilhelm Meistor.
