WAINUI DROWNING ACCIDENT. By TolcEi'aph—Special Correspondent. 1 ' Wanganui, December 17. Further particulars of tho drowning accident at Wainui, near Taihapo, show that Willio Bishop, ten years of age, went with a younger brother to swim in a dam. Alter entering tho water he soon got into difficulties in a place six feet deep. Without realising what was happening, tho younger lad watched his brother drown, and about half ail hour la.ter went homo and informed tho father of what had happened. Tho body was quickly recovered, but efforts to restpro animation failed. At the inquest a verdict of accidcntal drowning was'returned. FATAL'PALI/ FIIOM A THEE. By Telegraph—Press Assoiiation. r Auckland, December ,17. . A boy named Norman Sutherland died in, the Hospital to-day as a result of injuries sustained through a fall from a tree. Deceased's parents rc-sido at Oneliunga. - ! TWO BOYS DROWNED. Auckland, December 17. . Two boys, named James Irwin, aged thirteen, and Raymond Sainty, aged, thirteen, wero drowned in a pond on the Campbell Estate yesterday. Accompanied by a third boy, named Cochrane, they were playing in the estate. Sainty. and Cochrane, both of whom could swim, went for a ! bathe in tho pond, and Irwin, who could not >wim, went on to tho pond on a wooden raft. Suddenly 'the raft collapscd, and Irwin sank. Both Cochrane and Sainty made a brave attempt at rescue, but Sainty' was seized by Irwin, and both vent to the bottom. Cochrane's attempts to save both boys' were unavailing, and after {diving for some time he went for help. When the bodies v»ere recovered the deceased were found claspsd m each other's arms. At the inquest' to-day the Coroner found that Irwin bad been accidentally drowned, and that Kainiy was drowned while ; heroicady endeavouring to save Irwin. Ho also commended'the action of Cochrane in attempting a rescue.
