Adtessing tho fith and sixth, on Thursday morning, Mi- Grundy said that many of those before him were going out into the world or to continue their education in other institutions. All such lie wished vary lieartily, everjr success. He had .every reason 'to bo, satisfied with the progress they had, made. In almost all eases they had. worked hard, and been buccessful, hut others had not beon so fortunate. They should all rememDer that they had to prepare themselves lor the work of life. . They were, in a way very lucky boys and girls, and' wouiu have opportunities in life that other boys and girls liad never had. They would havo chances, at a very early stago in life, of taking up responsible positions, .ana their.duty was to make ready to bopome captains of industry (like Mr. David Robertson), merchants, doctors, and prominent in whatever grade of society their lota were cast. ■In order to do that they must do their d«ty by working hard and doing well. Above all, be honest — hones]; to theinsolves, and to those round them. If they did that thoy need have no fear of the future. He concluded by wishing them all a merry .Christmas and a. happy Now Year. Mr._ Thos. Forsyth' (chairman of tho committee) referred, to the sound advice given by Mr. Grundy, and hoped that ihey. would all work hard to maintain the standard set by Mr. Grundy at Clyde Quay—the highest in Wellington. Of those who had competed 77 had been awarded proficiency certificates, 10 competency certificates, and 0 hnd failed. If all had taken Mr. Grundy's advice they' would have gained 96 "proficiencies," but as it was the result was an excellent one. He urged'thorn all to go for proficiency certificates, becauso of the help their possession beoame in after life. He wished them the season's ■ greetings, and hoped they would all come back happy and smiling in the new year. Mr. David Kobertson, who was chairman of the committee'for 26 years, eaid' that ho would like to 6ay a word or two as one who had been connected with the school from the beginning. He;-was.one of the agitators for the establishment of the school. It took a bit of agitating, too, as in those days everybody was so hard up for funds. He had been closely associated with Mr. Grundy all that time, , and it was due to Mr. Grundy that Clyde Quay had turned out 60 many good boys 1 and girl 6.' He had really come to say good-bye to his old friend, Mr. Grundy, who had done his duty and done it nobly. He wished him every hiappiness ian'd prosperity in. the, future,- and felt sure that wherever, he went he would never forget Clyde Quay. • If all the boys and girls before him grew np to the same stamp of character as Mr. Grundy they would do well. Ho wished them all a merry Christinas and a happy New Year. Cheers were thon given for Mr.' Grundy and Mr. Robertson in tho heartiest manner.
