dRELIEF FOR BELGIUM

"Everyone who has looked into the facts must be convinced-of the extremity of .Belgium's present distress and' the dire need for further aid, especially the provision of food for little chiW dren. • Nothing could.be more appropriatel than that such gifts should be "si Christmas contribution from our home circles throughout the Empire, and we cordially wish 'God speed to the appeal." So runs part of the stirring-'appeal made by the. ' Arch-, bishop of Canterbury, Cardinal Bourne', and others for help for Belgian children, and the opportunity for response is provided by the ■combined committees of Hosencath, Hataitai, Kilbirnie, Maranui, Lyall Bay, Miramar, and Sea•toun, suburbs on-the far side of the tunnel, who have organised a monster Christmas fair, to be held in Kilbirnia Park on Friday, and Saturday afternoon- and evening. Speoial committees have been hard at work providing stalls and goods, games, amusements, sideshows, etc., so that all will have an opportunity to contribute to the fund, ,and at the same time enjoy themselves. A special feature for Saturday,, evening is the submarine explosion. An old craft has been obtained, and, this will be blown up by a detachment'from the Now Zealand Artillery at 7.15 p.m. A large magazine will, be erected as a concert hall, and many of Wellington's best performers have promised to ccntribtue to a lengthy: musical programme. The need to-day for, help to Belgium is-as. great as ever, and citizens are confidently asked to'patronise the fair. .
