An advertisement in this issue calls attention to the closing of acceptances for the Manawatu Racing. Club's first day's handicaps and final payments for tho Palmerston North Stakes to-morrow evening at 9.30 p.m. T. F. Quinlivan, with Blackall, Llanishoen, Simonides, and Elocution goes north to-morrow evening on his way to the Auckland Cup meeting. Marco Bello fell and cut one of his knees, and could not be takcn;north with John Barleycorn. Ho will go into J. Ruttledge's stables during C. Christio's absence in Auckland. Weights for the Stratford meeting, to bo held on January 1 and 2, are due on Wednesday. Janitor, who is an aged gelding by Waipaw.i--Jinffle, dam of the Grand National Steeplechase winner, Captain. Jack, was purchased ori the second day of the Foilding meeting by Mr. T. Whelob, owner of Merrio Lad, Manakau, and other horses. Tho price paid was ,£l5O. It is Mr. Whelch's intention to. send Janitor south to a Canterbury stable. Ho is an efficient fencer, and an'attempt will be made with him in cross-country events, Mr. Whelch has been after him. for some time, but Mr. H. Gaisford would not sell. On Thursday, however, he was so disgusted with his bad luck that the deal was completed immediately after the race. The horse cut his stifle slightly when ho jumped off the course. Backers were' right on tho spot with the Springfield Trial Plate at Methven, tho favourite winning comfortably, while the next four horses finished in the order in which they wore supported on the machine. Mr. J. Henrys, jun., has been appointed handioapper for tho second day of tho Stratford meeting. In connection with the Jubilee meeting of the Westhmd Racing Club, owners are notified that entries for all events close on Friday next at 0 p.m.

The Gisborno apprentice, C. Sinclair, has been mentioned as likely to ride Shrill in the Railway Handicap at Ellerslie.

Tho Waipa meeting, to lie held on Saturday next, is the only attraction for sportsmen this week..

C. Gieselcr, with Ardenvohr, mid C. Christie, with John Barleycorn, aro expected to pass through hero on Wednesday on their way to tho Auckland Cup meeting.

Though he is away at Samoa, Mr. F. Armstrong continues to race his horses in tho Dominion, and at tho holiday meetings Sleight of Hand and Cherry Blossom will carry his colours.

G. Price entered Wapping for tho Maiden and Summer Handicap at tho Hawko's Bay Jockey Club's meeting, but as tho Advance gelding .has since joined another traiuer's team, and as the mentor in question will bo engaged elsewhere at Now Tear, the trip to Hastings' for tho chestnut gelding is not likely to eventuate. A well-known Poverty Bay sportsmen is spoken of as tho new owner of Wapping, and the prico paid was 225 guineas.

Entries for the Summer meeting of the Wellington Racing Club close on Monday, December JB, at 9 p.m.

Vepy satisfactory entries have been received for the Summer meeting of tho Hawko's Bay Jockey Club. The hack events havo filled'extra well. The entries are almost solely from tho Hawko's Bay and Poverty Bay districts.

Weights for the Marton meeting are due on Wednesday.

Paninuro figures amongst the entries for the- Marton Cup, oho mile, and a quarter. He is also engaged in the Summer Handicap on the second day of the meeting, but has been left out of the sprint events, which points to the fact that Q. Price intends to try and get him to go over a distance. Only a trio of two-year-olds havo been nominated for the Juvenile handicaps at the'coming Dunedin meeting. The very useful.
