SCENE IN THE RUSSIAN DUMA
A DEPUTY SUSPENDED CHALLENGE TO A DUEL Petrograd, December 7. Debates in tho Duma culminated in the resignation of the President, M. Rodzianko, in consequence of M. Markoif calling him a "fiabbling blackguard." M. Markoff declared that tile insult was deliberate, because the Duma had previously insulted high personages. M. Markoff was suspended' for fifteen sittings. M. Rodzianko reflected the views of an overwhelming majority, but to satisfy his personal honour be challenged M. Markoif to a duel. The incident led to a split in the reactionary extreme right. ■It is emphasised in regard to the Duma's debates that critics of the Government arc determined to prosecute .tho war to the bitter end. They complained of certain dark forces sapping- the power of the Empire, owing to a system under which the Government is producing a Cabinot destitute of united purpose.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
