REQUISITIONED WOOL

DISCUSSION BY CANTERBURY v . . FARMERS. By Telegraph—Press Association . Christohurch, Defccmber'6. A meeting of delegates from the Canterbury Skeepowners' Union, North Canterbury_A; and P. Associations, and Farmers' Union branches was held today to consider matters arising out of the purchase of tho wool clip by the Imperial .Government. Complaint was made that the Government had broken its agreement. with growers by not protecting their interests in regard to two shipments - and an arbitrator being appointed. It was agreed that sheepowners appoint three representatives to check valuations. Tho followng resolu•ton was endorsed: "That in view of the extent of the scourng industry and tho number, of men employed therein, it be a recommendation of the Canterbury Sheepowners'..Union that the ■ Government he requested to make provision in. tho interests of the wool-scouring industry for at least as much wool to bo treated in local works Under the requisition scheme; as has been treated in the past." Mr. A. Boyle waited on the meeting, and gave a resume of what had.been done in regard to valuing wool in Christohurch. Twelve men working in pairs had gone round the stores, and; brokers were not particularly enamoured of the system, because they considered there was a chance of the wool as a whole being unevenly valued. In most cases, probably ninoty. per cent.,the Government value . was fair. In the remaining ten per cent, the values were in favour of buyers, but on api>eal tho values had been increased. He was satisfied growers were getting- fair value for their wool, but certain classes would probably fetch more at auction.
