SEAMEN'S UNION
NOMINATIONS AND ELECTIONS.
Mr. W. T. Young, general secretary of the Federated Seamen's Union of New Zealand, has stated, that in accordance with the powers conferred on it by the rules of tlie association, the head office has recoived and considered nominations for officers of tho local branohes for the ensuing term, and has mado the following decisions:— Dunedin Local.—President, Murdoch Mackenzio; vice-presidents, J. H. Davies and W. Randle; -treasurer, J. D. Miller; secretary, W. Belcher; councillors, J. H. Davies, W. Belcher, and W. Clarke; trustees, Henry Maxwell and F. C. Smith (all tho foregoing wore elected unopposed). Tho nomination of William Clarke for tho office of secretary, being signed by two persons only, one of whom being a Wellington member, and tho other two years in arrears on Puaedin books, is declared out of,order and void. Wellington Local.—Vice-presidents, A. Kitchingham and D. Currie; treasurer, John Cashman; secretary, W. T. Youag; assistant-secretary, H. W. Richards; councillors, D. Donovan, J. Shepherd and G. Nation (all foregoing elected unopposed). President, D. Donovan and J. Adams (ballot to be taken). William Rcith was nominated as a Wellington councillor, but being an Auckland local member his nomination was out of order, and it is declared void. Only Wellington local members can bo .Wellington councillors.
Auckland Local. —President. S. Millbank (unopposed); treasurer, J. W. Coleman (unopposed); vice-presidents, R. Bourne, N. M'Donald and • William Simpson (ballot to bo taken); councillors, S. Millbank, W. Simpson, R. Bourne, and N. M'Donald (ballot to bo taken).
As the result of physical infirmity the head office declined tho nomination of Mr. J. K. Kneen, as Auckland secretary, as he was incapable of performing the duties appertaining to that office. The nomination was declined on the grounds that ho had not been able to attend a meeting of local members for over three years, was' incapable of taking minutes, interviewing shipowners, reaching members on vessels to receive complaints/ collecting contributions, 'and attending to the business of Auckland Local generally. Contrary to rules, all business had been transacted at his private house. During the six years of his incapacity Mr. Kneen had received salaTy totalling .£ll7O, while an assistant secretary liad to be appointed, and with assistants made a grand total of J2340 pair out in salaries. Tho bead office declared Mr. Anderson elected .assistant secretary, and invited fresh nominations for the position of secretary.
