« : ' SITTING AT MILTON. . By Telegraph—Press Association. Dunedln, December 4. The Military Service Appeal Board! sat at Milton to-day. An appeal by Frederick Clark, bootmaker, who had been given, till to-day to arrange his affairs, was dismissed. Robert darks and Charles Clarke appealed on grounds of.undue hardship. They, said they were working on their father's farm, and the father could nob afford to employ labour. The father was too old to work. The appeal of Charles Clarke was dismissed, and that of Robert Clarke was adjourned sine die, conditional on appellant remaining in the same occupation: Josephi Lynch and James Lynch, wool chiss- , ers and pullers, appealed on grounds' of undue hardship. : They stated that they had an invalid mother, eightyfour years old, and a sister who nursed! her, to support. The cases were adjourned sine die, conditional on appel-' lants remaining in the same occupa* tion. John Orr Tweed, working farm; manager, appealed on the grounds that' his calling-up was contrary to the public interest, and undue hardship, as he was employed by a widow to manage her estate. William Ales Tweed appealed on the grounds that he was, the only man on the farm of his father, and invalid, aged 84 years, and; stated that the father wag •unable to. pay for labour, and had three dependants. In the case of John Tweed the Board reserved irs decision for aj month, to enable the employer to mala' arrangements. The case of William Tweed was adjourned sine die, conditional on appellant remaining in his; present occupation. Thomas Haley; and Michael Maley,. farmers, Clarksville, appealed on the ground that their farm an stock would be negleoted if they enlisted.; The appeal of Thomas Maley 'was dismissed and that of Michael .was adjourned sine die, conditional on his re-, raaining in the same occupation. An- 1 drew and Adam M'Corkindale, farmers ■ Manuka Creek, appealed on the ground; of financial obligations.: The board decided to give Andrew, M'Corkindale a! month to make arrangements. The other appeal was adjourned sine_ die, conditional on the appellant remaining in the same occupation. Chas. Lowery, farmer, Lovell's Flat, appealed on the! grounds that he was the only one to work a farm of 230 acres, his father being unable to look after it. Jas, Lowery appealed on the ground of his occupation (farmer), and also urged financial obligations. Chas. Lowery'a appeal was adjourned sine die, condi-" tional on appellant remaining in tho! same occupation. The appeal of Jas.Lowery, -who might be rejected as un- , fit, was dismissed. Jas. Hamilton, threshing mill, owner, appealed on thei; ground that his calling up 'was con-*, trary to public interest, and would re-> suit in hardship for appellant. It was stated that two brothers had left ; fori Trentham to-day, and another was go- : ing in a week.' Another had been rejected by the Medical Board for twelve months'. The appeal was adjourned sine die, conditional on appellant remaining in the same occupation!
