THE WOOL REQUISITION
DETAILS OF THE SCHEME. r Tho wool requisitioa scheme is very near]} - ready for operation now. It is a hugo ■ business - concern and the Minister of Commerce (the Hon. W. I). .-. 6. Mac Donald) has to deal every day with a great mass of telegraphic and 'postal>corrospbndenc6 from all over New Zealand on points of detail as they arise- in different centres. On© of tho matters still unsettled relates "to contracts of salo completed before the requisition was announced. -The Minister said .yesterday that tho /understauding with -tho growers was ''that- tho contract should ho cancelled, hut tho buyers consider that they ought to be allowed to hold the wool, ■'. and a. meeting' will ho held on Monday ■ ... on tho return of soine of the buyers from Napier to deal with the matter. ' Tho party of valuers at Napier havo been-busy, and thoy hope .to liavo their work done to-day to enable the ship now loading there to leavo on- schedule date. When they como hack to Wellington the whole organisation for Now Zealand will ho completed, and tho Jjcliemc will ho in general operation. Tho.fixing of the details of organisation will not occupy more than about a day. , '. Some miaundorstanding exists among certain of the, farmers about, tho valuation. Somo of them are still under the impression that they 'have to find a valuer for their wool. '. This is not so. The brokers, as part of the service thay render to tho farmer and the Government, find one valuer, and the Government finds another valuer. All the brokers' valuers are New Zealand men, and all. the Government valuers" are >00l buyers—all specialists in tho wool trade... '■".'. -.'■.' ••' Tho ports of delivery at whioli wool ■will bo taken over from tho growers are not yet all determined. The, Government is anxious to allow wool to go
Fo all the places where ifc was formerly handled, and every place claims to have all requisite facilities; Inquiry and •inspection havo yet to be mado, however, as to whether this is the case at somo of tlio smaller ports. For the proper valuing of wool spacious and well-lighted stores are essential, and tlio Government has to ho satisfied that theso arc available at a.placo before it can bo made a point of delivery. Thoso already provisionally aercod upon are: Auckland; Gisboriie, Napier, Waitara, Wanganni, Wellington, Nelson, Chr'islchurcli, Timaru,' Oninarii, Port Chalmers, Bluff, and 'fokomaru Bay. Some of these may yet have to bo eliminated. Investigation is still hcill" mado regarding Picton, Patca, and one or tivo'i other smaller ports. •
