Captain Ronald Graeme Orbell, of the New Zealand Medical Corps, who has been awarded tho Military Cross, is a'cousin of Mrs.. David Crewe, of "Tlio Grange," Pahiatua. Another relative, Captain E. Boulnois, of Aylesbury (Canterbury), who joined * the Imperial forces, was recently killed in action. Soldiers' Club Dance. The Soldiers' Club Room, Sydney Street, was a scene of gaiety last evening,, when the* monthly dance for tho men in camp was given. By 8 o'clock there was a very largo attendance of soldiers, and from thence onward till closing time the dancing never flagged for a moment. Mrs. L. Marchant and the Olympia Band supplied enjoyable dance music. Supper was served for the dancers in the gymnasium, while the entertainment of those-who did not dance was attended to by Mrs. Radeliffe and party. The gathering dispersed after "OJd Lang Syne" and cheers for the ladies of the Soldiers' Club. Patriotic Cake Room. The committee of tho Patriotic Cake Room acknowledge with thanks gifts of -home-made cakes, sweets, subscriptions, etc., from the following donors: —Mr. and Mrs. Firth, Mcsdames Smitten, Palmer, Perkins, Holmes, Badham, A. Myers, G. Fulton, Hassell (Porirua), W. Gavin, Christie, Isaacs, Hurst, Alexander (Brooklyn), Findlay, A. Williams, R. Wilson, Misses Macintosh, Clayton, AVheeler (2), Chalmers, Cameron, Nation, Rose, Drummond, M'Clure, Didsbury, M'Kellar, Sidey. von Dadelszen, Richardson, Turner, Kirkcaldie, and Master Hardy Meredith.. Miss Minnie- Wangh, the English soprano, who is to sing in "Tho Messiah" at the Town Hall on Thursday next, became Mrs. Alexander Orr recently. Mr. and Mrs. Orr have been touring in tho south, and are due here this morning. Mr. Orr was formerly a well-known hardware merchant in Christchurch. In a paragraph in yesterday's issue, in connection with the Ladies' Auxiliary of the Y.M.C.A., it was stated that at a sale of work in September the sum of £5 15s. sd. was gathered and put towards the cost of renovating the building. This amount should havo been £75 15s. sd. . The Masterton Horticultural . and Industrial Society held its annual rose' and sweet pea show in the Municipal Hall on Wednesday. The. exhibition was well. up to the usual standard, particularly, in -roses. The decorated tables were works of art, and were i judged by Miss. Murray, of Wellington. The ladies of the Lady Liverpool Committee provided afternoon tea, the proceeds .of which go to the.funds: of the committee. Miss E. Whitehead, M.A., who lias been principal of tho St. Matthew's School for Girls in Mastorteiv sinco its inception; is leaving, at the end of tho present year to take up her residence in. Dunedin. Mr. Edward Branscombe, the promoter of tho "Dandies" Companies, married Miss Clarke in Sydney last week. The 'bride was well known in the nursing profession. 1 Mrs. E. Kennedy, of Oriental Bay, has returned from the south, much benefited by her holiday. At the Masterton Rose and Sweet' Pea Show yesterday the championship for roses was awarded Mrs. C. F. Gawith, and for pansies to Mrs. H. R. Price. The following nurses of the N.Z.A.N. S. have reported at Trcntham for duty: —Staff Nurse E. Child, Staff Nurse H. Carruthers, Staff Nurse K. M'Gregor, Staff NnrsO'E. Barnes, Staff Nurse W. Brooke-Lees. Miss Alice Maddison, of Hastings, who has been honorary secretary of the Hastings Red Cross Society sinco its formation; was presented with a handbag by the citizens in recognition of valued services. Miss Maddison intends residing in AVellington. Mrs. and Miss Deck, of Motueka, arc visiting Wellington in order to see Major Deck. They are returning home again early next week. Those in charge of the Triangle Depot this week will be: On Friday, Miss Campbell and Miss E. Lawson, and on Saturday, Mrs. Lowe. The Red Cross sales room movement is well on tho way, and the room will be open beforo Christmas. So far those who are taking a day a month are: The Mayoress (Mrs. Luke), Rod Cross Depot ladies. Women's National Reserve (one day a month), Catholic Knitting Guild, Victoria League, Spinsters' Club, Miramar, Seatoun, New Zealand Natives' Association, Day's Bay ladies, Mrs. Cornish and Mrs. Fuller, Hobson Street ladies, St. John NuTsing Division, Wadestown, Jolmsonville, Oriental Bay, and Rosoncatb. Otaki and Paraparaumu hope to be able to come in and take one day a month each. Those who are undertaking a day are reminded of the meeting to-day, in the Town Hall, when one representative from each division is expected. The .committee, secretary, and treasurer will be appointed and tho day of opening' arranged.
