EXPORT OF COAL
— « THE CONFERENCE ADJOURNED. A conference was. held last night in Parliament Buildings between representatives of labour mnions interested, the coalminers and waterside workers on tho one hahd ; ,and tho shipping companies, coalmine owners, and Ministers on the other hand, on the subject of tho export of coal to Australia during tho currency of tho present strike there. The miners and the other workers ask that no coal shall bo exported to Australia, but they are prepared within limits to allow coal to be sent thero for tho exclusive uso of New Zealand transports. Tho definition 'of these limits is the matter the conference had to deal with, and the subject proved to be one of more difficulty than would appear at first glance probable. Tho conference adjourned with the details still not all settled. The official announcement, however, is that the negotiations are proceeding satisfactorily, and that thero is reason to hope that the whole matter may be settled.
