ACCOUNTANT STUDENTS' SOCIETY

The animal general meeting of tlio above society was-held at the Accountants' Chambers, .Johnstone Street, last evening. The president, Mr. ErB&; \V Hunt, occupied the chair, and fe the course of his presidential address referred to tho large number of members who were away on active service Tho society was proud of them. Four members had mot tehir death on active service, viz., Messrs. F. Allen, E. A. Norris, J. B. H. Saxon, and W. L. Ward. The speaker briefly reviewed the past session, and congratulated the society on having carried the abnormal conditions prevailing. He expressed tho strong opinion that at no time had tho prospects of tlio accountancy profession been so attractive as at present, and even should students not adopt accountancy as a profession, there was still every need to qualify in accountancy knowledge in tho commercial, world. Even if unemployment existed at tho ond of tho war, he believed that there would bo ample scope for the qualified man, and that the demand would exceed the supply. Ho therefore urged every member to, take an. active part in the society's operations,' as it was such societies as the.Wellington Accountants' Students' Society which provided the means of gaining useful knowledge. The present age is one of specialisation, and he deplored the spirit of leaving over things until the end of the war. When peace comes it should find us equipped with the necessary knowledge to carry on our commerce to meet tho subtle rivalry of tho countries with which we are at war, who were no doubt preparing themselves now. Tho annual report and accounts,. as presented by tho committee, were adopted. .. At tho subsequent election of officers tho following members were successful :—President, Mr. Ernest W. Hunt (re-elected); vice-presidents, Messrs. J. L. Arcus, J. S. Barton, A. P. Clarke, H. A. Gold, and "W. B. Hudson; oommittee, P. A. do Barclay, H.. D. Edwards, J. D. Eves, H. K. Douglas, H. N. Miller, and C. M. Bowden; lion, secretary, Mr.'P. 11. Bass (re-elected); lion, treasurer, Mr. G. C. Cooke; lion, auditor, Mr. C. R. Mazcngarb.
