J. here were also present Councillors Hobbs, Ball, M'Dougall, Clendon, •Brasell, Carver, Meldrum, and Hodgins. The town clerk, Petone, in'a letter, directed attention to the water from Huggins's Gully, which flooded certain parts of the borough of Petone during the recent heavy rains, and requested the Hutt authorities to take steps to prevent a recurrence. ' The town clerk, Port Chalmers, wrote asking the council's support to a resolution protesting against the Government allowing civil servants in Teceipt of high, salaries the 10 per cent, war bonus. It was pointed out that the council could do nothing, in the matter as. most of those, entitled to the bonus had already received it. The report of .the Board of Trade in regard v to the price of milk in the Lower Hutt.-was forwarded to the council by the Minister of Agriculture. The report went into the matter very fully, and stated that the milk vendors would not raise the winter price, but would maintain the same price throughout the summer and winter; and advised that no further stops be taken in the matter for the present. Councillor MDougall pointed out thatthe milk vendors had intended to make the winter price Bd. a quart, and the council's a:ction had put a stop to this move. The Borough Solicitor, Mr. ,E. P. Bunny, advised the council that it had power to expend money on the erection of bathing sheds, and pointed out that it would be necessary to obtain from the land owners either a lease or a transfer •of the land required, together with means of access. The application of the Public Trustee for pel-mission to construct a new street through part of Section 32 (late Harnett's estate) was referred to the engineer for a report. . The engineer's report stated that several slips had occurred in places where the side of the Nofmandale Hill falls steeply away from the Toad, and repairs were immediately effected to prevent them becoming serious. The expenditure for the fortnight ended November 18 on District Fund account was shown as ,£194 15s. =td„ and on Gas Account £U lis. 3d., a total of .£20!) fis. 7d.
