MAORI RECRUITING

HON. J. ALLEN MEETS WAIKATO NATIVES. By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, November 24. The Hon. James Allen addressed a largo gathering of Waikato and other Natives to-day at Mercer regarding the question _of Maori recruiting. Mr. ' Allen pointed out that up to the present 1700 young Maoris from various tribes had gone to the front, but he regrettedl that tho Vaikato Natives had not contributed their quota. He pointed out the power given him to extend compulsion to Natives. "King" Rata was not present, but his "Prime Minister" stated that no hindrance would be placed in the way of young members of the tribe enlisting.
