METHODIST SOCIAL SERVICE UNION
A meeting under tho auspices of the Social Service Union of the Methodist Church (Wellington district branch) was held in tho Lowor Hutt Church on Wednesday evening, the Rev. E. Drake, of Newtown, in the chair. The church was fairly well filled. The chairman said Methodists in possessing' a union like this were simply following tho trail of their founder, John Wesley. ' The Rev. A. Rcador, of Thorndon, gave a thoughtful address on "Tho "War and Democracy." All that was worth living for, democracy included, tho speaker thought, depended upon tho outcome of this war. It was the testing time for democracy. The subject was then thrown open to discission, when tho Rov. C. B. .Totdon spoke on the cost of liivng problem; the Rev. M. J. Evans on exploitation of foodstuffs and tho drink traffic, and the Rev. A. M'Bean on tho nation's foreign policy. Tho Rev. J. A. Hosking dolivored a fighting speech on tho New Zealand Parliament and tho liquor traffic.
