BOARD OF TRADE

ITS CONSTITUTION ATTACKED. At tho Conference of Chambers of Commerce yesterday, Mr. R. Hall (Wellington Central) moved:—"That this con-" ference is of opinion the Board of Trade, New Zealand, as constituted, is not representative of tho commerce and industries of the Dominion. That the board.should be reconstituted and have power to extend the internal trade of the Dominion, and also to establish other markets than thoso possessed by the Dominion at the present time." - \ Mr. Hall contended that it could not be said that the present board was representative of tho commerce of New Zealand. The commercial community could have no use for the board. It was. merely a cost of food commission. The board would not act in the interests-of the commercial community. Mr. A. Harris (Wanganui)- seconded the motion. Ho said that the wheat position was sufficient to induce thom to oppose tho constitution of the board. Mr. H. S. Bourn (Christchiirch) pointed out that when the wheat arrangements were made the Board of Trade was not l in existence. The motion was carried. There was e, fair volume of "noes."
