MAKARA COUNTY COUNCIL

The annual meeting of the Makara County Council was held . yesterday, when there wore present Councillors H. J. Monaghan, J. H. Haggerty, A. J. Taylor, S. B. Mexted, S. Bryant, and .Geo. Monk. 'The business of the meeting 'was to elect a chairman for tho forthcoming Jear in place of Councillor Monaghan, who retired from the' position, and also pointed a Works and Finance Committee. On tho motion of : Councillor Monk, Councillor Haggerty was elects ed chairman, thero being 110 other -nominations. Councillor Bryant moved' that tlio whole of tlio council bo appointed a Works and Financo Committee, and tho motion was carried. After- the annual meeting an extraordinary meeting was bold, Councillor Haggerty presiding. ' Tho matter of the Ngaliauranga Gorge Road' was: left over for further consideration at tho next ordinary meeting, by which'- timo somo more information will have been gathered. A motion'proposed by tho chairman, was carried: "That notice, as required, bo given in the Gazette and one news-' paper circulated in tho district that the council becomes-a motor registering body as from' Dccombcr 27, 1916."
