lASHURST MEETING ROSE PINK WINS THE CUP, > (By Telegraph—Special Correspondent.) Palmerston N., November 22. Tho annual meeting of the Ashhurst Racing Club was held in S P.' C ' l{ ' "St" ther. The totalisator handled an increase of <£2477 over last year 9 figures. . „ In the opening event The Summit ana Austin wore backed in that order. Mount Victoria iras slow to begin, and never got near tho front, but he gave a goon exhibition of jumping, and was m fourth placo at the finish. With half a milo gone' Austin was showing tho way to Kurapai and Critic, with Nicomar next. Tno last-named moved up down tho back', and was alongside Austin, at the last fence. Ho finished on we 'J> * a won nicely from Kurapai> who beat Austin for second placo. Strategist ana Keynote lost their Tiders at the second Gaycium came from Wanganui a big tip for the Pohangina Handicap, anu she started favourite, with Oliiwia and Moutoa Queen next. . Tho Eordell maro drew No. 1 position, and jumped out smartly, but Mystified and Gaycrum joined her in tho lead, and she was soon cut off. Gaycium shook off tho others and led into the straight, where Moutoa Queen came fast, and Goldfinch had to draw the whip on tho favourite, who was beaten in the last stride, Moutoa Queen winning by a head. Bradamante, iyhp got' a lucky run' 011 the fence, was third, and then came Marimba, who was. ridden ill behind, and did not go out _ with tho leaders. . Hushabye was left at the post, and Step, also got off badly. There wore 11 runners in the I 1 lying Hack Handicap. After ono false start the field went off in straggling order. Lady General and Goldbearnig went out in front clear of Ngarua,.Golden Glade,. Hushman, and Gold Shot. Entering the straight, Golden Glado was carried very wide and lost his chance. Lady General ran home an easy dinner from Goldbearing, with Polynesian just clear, and Ngarua, Golden Glade, and Gold Shot. All the acceptors went to the post for the Cup. SquaTe Deal and Montana "both stripped well, the latter particularly so. The Masterton horse was a good favourite, next in public opinion being Marsinah, Roso Pink, Want, and Square Deal. At the start Sir Insher was left several lengths. Passing tho stand Marsinah had taken up her usual role ef pacemaker, and she was followed by Orleans, Ararat, .Rose Pink, and Montana. Down tho back Rose Pink and. Ararat moved up,- but Orleans could not 'hold his position. Entering tho straight Marsinah was in trouble, and Rose Pink took charge. She was challenged' by Montana, but in trying to get through on the fence the latter was sent back and lost his stand. Square Deal finished fast and got second place, a neok in front of Montana.' Want was fourth, and then came Ararat, Silenus, andMar6inah. . .
Rewa Rewa and Detroit were the 'selections in the Kornako Welter Handicap. At the start Hastio got cut out, and the early running was taken up by Foeman, with Rewa Rewa, Firing Line, The Golfer, and Waitomo next. Detroit moved up down the back, and he and The Golfer were in. behind Foeman at the straight , entrance. The two named were all hard ridden from the distance, and over the last bit The Golfer got his neclc in front. Foeman was third, and then camo Narnur, 'Sir Wallace, and Royal Favourite. There was a very big field in 1 the Maiden Stakes, and the starter had considerable trouble in getting them on the course. At tho start King's Armour got out with a break and showed great pace for half a mile, but 'ho stqpped badly in the straight, and, hard Tidden, Probation got up on the fence ■ and beat the..unlucky Lad ( y Edith, with Flying Spur third and King's Armour next. The remainder were badly strung. ■ Hushabye and Bi'adamante were saddled up for the llaumai Welter Handicap. Backers went for Bronk Delaval (a'winner at Waverley). He and Hushabye, who was badly left in' the Pohaiigina Handicap, made play for six furlongs, •where the latter had enough. Bradtimante was finishing well, and looked like scoring until Botanist came with a strong finishing Tun, and got the verdict. Bronk Delaval lasted long enough to beat Bradamarite by tho smallest of margins for second place. Mazamn. was fourth. . ' Backers wont solidly for Splendidus for tho concluding event. He had every chance to score, but was not good enough. Vladineau was not well placed at the start, and probably covered more ground than any of the other runners. Bairnsdale finished best, and won fairly easily. He is evidently on the improve.
