Healy, or Brooklyn, has been awarded the Military Cross. Lieut. Healy has been a member of the Australian Infantry Forces since the outbreak of the war. Mr. F. Jenness, of the Lower Hutt, has heard recently from his brother, Dr. Diamond Jenness, who was a member of the Steffannson scientifio expedition to the Canadian Arctic. He is now preparing his reports in Ottawa, Canada, but mentions in the letter that ho has thoughts of enlisting for active service at the front. During the Presbyterian Assembly yesterday morning, the Rev. W. J.: Comrie, the treasurer, extended, liis sincere and heartfelt thanks for the; kind messages of condolence ho had re-' coived on the occasion of his'recent' bereavement. He greatly appreciated; such kindly consideration. Mr. T. E. Crosse was yesterday reelected chairman of tho Hawke's Bay County Council. Mr. Henry Norman, of Koiterangi, has (states a Press Association message) been elected Westland County Chairman. -. One of tho prominent members of tho R.N.Z.A., Sergt.-Major Artificer Buck, died yesterday. Deceased, who was 52 years of. age, formed tho torpedo corps over 30 years ago, and has continuedservice ever since. He was also an instructor to the Territorial Garrison Artillery for ft number of years. Ha was a member of tho Antipodean Lodgfl of Oddfellows. Deceased leaves a widow and two married daughters, Mre. A.. A. Young and Mrs. W. Carson. He was the second son of Mr. Francis Buck, Tory Street. ' • Sympathetic reference was made to tho death of Lieutenant Sheridan, which occurred in the Somme battlo on September 15, at tho annual meeting of tho Methodist Church Synod yesterday. Before enlisting, Lieutenant Sheridan was a minister of the Methodist Church in the Auckland circuit. Though ho hesitated a considerable time before enlisting, being unable tij, decide whether the higher duty was to stay and fulfil his obligation to the Church, or to go and fight for his country, when lie once had made up his mind he threw himself without reserve into his military duties, and quickly gained a commission. He was held in esteem by his fellow officers and his men, before whorii he made nn secret of liis Christian profession/and vocation, and amongst whom ho _ was frequently asked to act as a spiritual advisor. ' . The funeral of tho late Mr. David T. Orr, of Buller Street, who was for many years in business in 'Wellington, as a chemist and druggist, took place yesterday morning. Amongst those present were Mr. W. S. Wallace (president of the Chemists' Defence Association), and many others connected with the drug trade. The service at the graveside at Karori was conducted by the Rev. Dr. Gibb.
