AVELLINGTON'S DONATION ACKNOWLEDGED.
Mr. R. AA 7 . Shallcrass, hon. socretary of the Wellington Branch of the Navy League, has received the following letter from Mr. P. J. Hannon, General Secretary of the Navy League in London :— "My first official communication to you is the pleasant one of conveying an acknowledgment of the receipt of a ramittance of £5000. which has been through the High Commissioner from your branch of tho Navy League to the Dependants Fund administrated by this organisation. Tin's furthpr contribution brings the total received from Wellington as at this date up to £12,600. I need hardly assure you how deeplv touched the public of this country has been by and how .profoundly grateful the officers nnd niPii in His Majesty's Fleet are. for the snlp'idid generosity shown by the oeoplo of Wellington. lam communicating tn the Commander-in-Chief a statement of the amounts subscribed by the poodle of New Zealand for the benefit of the dependants of our splendid sailors, who havn.laul down their liv»s in the defence of the Empire, and I hone to bo able to transmit to vou shortly a personal letter from Sir John .Tcllicoe expressing hi? nnnrcciatinn of what has been done.
