MASTERTON NOTES
The inquest concerning the death of the lad William Ivan Judd, who sticoumbed from injuries sustained in a collision with a motor car, was held by District Coroner Eton oil Monday. After hearing ' lengthy evidence, the Coroner returned the following verdict:—"That the deceased met his death accidentally and by misfortune, by colliding with a motor car which was going in tie same direction, and driven by one James Alexander Ferguson." There is very little unemployment in tho". Masterton district just now, and the demand for skilled labour is particularly keen. At a meeting of tho Claims Board of the Wairarapa Patriotic Association, the wife of a, man killed at tho front was advanced a sum of £12 as the deposit on the purchase of a house. A soldier named Williams was run over by a motor car near Masterton a few evenings ago, and sustained injuries from which he is still suffering. Old settlers of tho Masterton district aver that there, has never, in their whole experience, been so prolific a growth of grass as this season. Some of the oat crops in the Masterton district are almost ready for harvesting. A movement has been initiated with the object of holding a championship athletic meeting at Masterton between representatives of the Ee'atherston and Trentham Camps. The recent warm rains have caused blight to appear among man.y of the potato crops in the Masterton district.
