BRITISH GOODS

INDUSTRIES FAIR IN LONDON. The third annual British Industries Fair is to be held in London from February 26 to March 9 of next year. A cablegram receivod by tho Trade Commissioner (Mr. R. AV. Dalton) from the British Board of Trade mentions these dates, and adds {hat- a trade exhibition organised by the Glasgow Corporation will bo held simultaneously in Glasgow. Fancy goods, toys, glass, and chinawarc, printing, and stationery will be shown at the London Fair. The goods to be shown at the Glasgow Fair, which has been arranged by the corporation with tho support of the Board of Trade, will be textiles, ready-made clothing, boots, prepared or preserved food-stuffs, and domestic chemical products. Speaking to a Dominion reporter on the subject yesterday, Mr. Dalton stated that the dates were being announced as early as possible for tho convenience of business men who might be contemplating a trip to the United Kingdom, and would like to mako their stay wjtli the holding of tho exhibitions. Ho would be glad to give additional information regarding tho fairs to any business people who might be interested. The_ value of theso annual displays of British goods, organised 9n tho lines of Germany's great Leipzic Fair, was widely rccognised, and_ the Imperial Board of Trade was anxious to extend their usefulness to the greatest possible extent, in relation to tho British Dominions as well as neutral countries. The fairs were not open to tho general public. They wero arranged for tho convenience and information of wholesale buyers. Prior to tHo outbreak of tho war, tho famous Leipzic Fair was attended by wholesale buyers from .all parts cf' tho world, and had a powerful influence upon tho fostering of German trade. It was the custom of the German manufacturers to offer many inducements to buyers lo visit Leipzic at tlie time of the fair. After tho war began, tho British Board of Trade decided to hold a trade fair in London, vrflli the object of introducing British goods to the oversea buyers, who wero no longer able to make their purchases in-Germany. The plan succeeded admirably, and tho London Fair appears now to have a definite place in. the United Kingdom"? trade, organisation
