TWO "SPORTS" BURN THEIR FINGERS. ■ By Telegraph-Proas A'ssooiation-Copyririit (Rec. November 20, 9.50 p.m.) Sydney, November 20. Lynton Barrington has been fined £10, and William Lawless, sporting journalist, £25,' in connection with ,the letters addressed to Les Darcy, which, were found on the American mail boat. Les Darcy, tlio Australian middleweight champion, mysteriously disappeared from his usual haunts and the ken of the "fancy" on or about October 31 last. Even such well-informed persons as W. F. Corbett, of the "Referee," and Mr. "Snowy" Baker, of the Stadium, have only a vague general idea, based on deductive reasoning, that he has bolted for America—whether for South or North America they are not sure. Ho had just reached military age, and in view of the extraordinary popularity which lie enjoyed with the public, bis clandestine. departure smote the "sports" with something of a shock of pained surprise. On November 16 amongst tho luggage of -a passenger departing by tho American steamer two letters were found addressed to Darcy, one bearing the pencilled signature, of a well-known Sydney sportsman. Tlie passenger and his luggage were taken ashore.
