Ryeland sheep are coming into prominence in the Old Country. The first annual sale and show of the society was held in August, at Hereford, anil for a first affair proved a success. A second-prize winner from the flock of' Mr. D. J. Thomas -was purchased for South Africa for 35 guineas, the average .for this flock being £20 10s. 6d. In shearling ewes, 35 head from one flock made an average of £s'ss. Fiftyone flock ewes averaged £4 45., and 35 from another flock averaged £5 ss. A recent dispersal sale of milking Shorthorns at flletchley, England, attracted many buyers. Forty-five head averaged £81 9s. 4d. The highest price for a cow was 2(50 guineas, given, by Captain. Buxton for Silverton Tolluria, 1913, a handsome young cow, duo to calve in November, out of Lancaster Telluria 2nd, by Bandmaster. Among the bulls, Kelmscott Juggler 36th, 1915, sire Trickster, was bought by Mr. J. L. Cross for 320 guineas. Five cows brought over one hundred guineas each. Lord AVimborno paid 140 1 guineas for Sweet Rush, a beautiful dark red cow,' full of quality, and 170 guineas for a roan in-calf heifer, wide, compact, and evenly fleshed. The own brother to Bawdsey Laddie, champion Suffolk stallion, 1910, and sold to Western Australia for 600 guineas, has just been sold to Mr. T. W. Jeffries, of Uruguay, reports "Live Stock Journal." This is Bawdsey Cuthbert, a big, well-grown, dark chestnut three-year-old, with an excellent set of legs and feet, and a fine mover. Both horses are by the famous champion stallion_ Bawdsey Harvester, and from the prize-winning maro Woolpit Lass. —
