WAR-LIKE NOTE IN THE DUMA
BRITISH MINISTER ACCORDED AN OVATION. ■ ' Australian-New Zealand Cable Association.' - London, November 16. The "Daily Chronicle's" correspondent at .Petrograd reports that the Duma has resumed. 'Hie speeches in both Houses emphasised the necessity for, fighting to a victorious finish. Theonly severe criticism of the Government was aimed.at removing causes which prevented the nation from develop-, ing its full energies to win the war. A member of the Right characterised the advocates of a separate peace as State criminals. The main theme of the speeches dwelt, on the necessity of bringing the Government into closer touch with Russian public opinion. * M. Rodziauka (President of the Duma) expressed gratitude for. the loy-' alty of Russia's Allies. ' ' A deputy cried: "Long live England!" and tho House gave, an .ovation to Sir George Buchanan (British Ambassador). - Polish- representatives protested against the parody of Polish independ- ■ ence, which debarred an ideal, free, and united Poland, which was only to be secured-, by the' Allies. An Admiralty communique slateslt. is estimated that during the lucent naval raid in the Gulf of Finland (on November 13), the Germans lost from six to nine of their largest and most modern torpedo boats. The' wreckage found confirms this."
