WINTER IN THE TRENCHES
Y.M.C.A. APPEAL FOR FUNDS FOR THE TROOPS. A special effort is being made by tho Y.M.C.A. on behalf of tho New Zealand troops, who have to faco a winter campaign in France and elsewhere, and for whose conifort money I is urgently needed. In inviting contributions to the Trench Comforts Fund, tho National Committee of tho Y.M.C.A. state that they feel that too much cannot bo dono to make the conditions a little more endurablo for the men who aro so freely giving their lives for us and for thoir country. The committee propose to cahle funds right away as they come in. Mr. Varney, field secretary of tho Y.M.C.A., lias advised tho New Zealand committee to discourage sending gift goods, but to cablo money, and they at the front can buy advantageously all* that is needed and savo months in transit. Tho Y.M.C.A.' organisation is such as to reach every man 3n 'tho forward lines.
