23RD REINFORCEMENTS
WELLINGTON'S BIG SHORTAGE. . The Wellington Military District's 'draft for tho 23rd Reinforcements went into camp on.' Tuesday, and reports which readied Defence Headquarters yesterday showed that the total number of men from tho district was 499.. The number of recruits required was 796, 'so that there was a shortage of no fewer than 297 Dfen. Nearly the whole shortage was in tho infantry. The Auckland draft reached camp' It was reported from Auckland to be at full strength, and' the ! shortage, if any, will be very* slight. The Canterbury men aro due to-day, and the Otago recruits will arrive tomorrow. . Both the southern districts are sending forward short drafts.
