TROOPS ON PARADE
THE NINETEENTHS. The 19th Reinforcements were paraded through, some of the principal streets of the City yesterday atternoon. A large crowd witnessed the maroh, and among these onlookers were scores of strangers to the City, who, having relatives or friends in the Contingent, had come in from various parts of New Zealand; ' Major W. L. Robinson, of the JN'.Z. Staff Corps, now O.C. of the 19ths, was in command, and the order of the march was: Mounted Rifles. Engineering Tunnelling Corps. I Divisional Signal Service. Specialist Company. Infantry. Maoris. \ Divisional Medical Corps. At 2 o'olock the men were assembled in Waterloo Quay, and there they met their relatives and friends. An hour later the march began. The course taken was via Bunny Street, Lambton. Quay, Willis Street, Manners Street, Lower Cuba Street, and Jervois Quay. The men as a whole were a very fine lot, and they should serve excellently in hard campaigning. They were far above the average in stature, and they looked to be trained to a very satisfactory stage of fitness. The chief' section of the draft is, of course, the infantry, and the men composing this arm were of excellent stamp. The Tunnellers were men of great physique, and the Maoris (a cheery party) were, as usual, distinguished by their splendid soldierly bearing. The route was narrowed through' the crowds closing in on the troops, and good marching was difficult. The majority of the men seemed to the hopelessness of trying to keep their lines, but the Maoris persevered, and their marching, in addition to being the best, was remarkably fine. The "Little Bootmaker" from Featherston once again'participated in the march, carrying his flag on high, and looking the proudest man in all.Wellington. ■The balcony of the Returned Soldiers Club was well laden with men back: from the war, and passing this point the troops , were heartily cheered.
