;.'NEXT-MONTH'S BIG 'APPEAL. .In connection with the two days'collection to bo taken on Friday and Saturday, December 1 and 2, respect tively, a large and very representative meeting was held in the Returned Soldiers' Club last evening, tho Mayor (Mr. J. P. Luke) presiding. A Central Executive Committeo was appointed and also a Ladies' Committee, and these committees are to meet shortly to plan out the procedure. Mr. Luke addressed the meeting asking all' present to assist in every way to make a.' success of the appeal for funds. The amount that the meeting decided to try and raise was £5000. This amount! Ts for the maintenance of the institu-' tion, and it was pointed out that the 1 club was not catering only for th_Qjp_en who are now returned, but is to cater/ for the thousands who have yet to come. It was made plain that the club' is not an institution to support men' who.did not care to work, but for the purpose of helping them back to-their former civilian life and bring them together. A resolution was carried unan'' imously by the meeting that the Government should be asked to subsidise the amount collected for the fund pound for pound.
