MAGISTRATE'S COURT
llr. L. G. Reid, S.M., held a short sitting of the Magistrate's Court on Saturday, when four first offenders for drunkenness were convicted and discharged. Linda. Catherine O'Connor, a prohibited person, with several previous convictions against her, was, on the application of tho police, remanded till to-day. It was stated that the police intend, asking that O'Connor should,bo committed to an inebriates' home. Sidney Smith behaved in a disorderly manner in tho Caledonian Hotel, and when ho was put outside he used obscene language, and assaulted an unknown person. For the disorderly behaviour Smith was fined 205., the alternative being fixed at seven days' detention. A similar penalty was imposed in respect of the obscene language lie used, whilo for tho assault he was convicted a.nd discharged. .Leyshon Williams, whilst under the influenco of liquor, went to a picture thcatro and made himself objectionable ■ to all. and sundry, especially pome ladies. Williams strenuously denied the charge, but the evidence was too strong. His Worship therefore inflicted a fine of 40s.and-fixed default at seven days' imprisonment.
