SWIMMING

EVANS BAY CLUB CARNIVAL. Although aquatics, like other sport in Wellington, has been considerably affected by the war, the above-named club held! a most successful day's sport at Evans Bay oil Saturday. The weather conditions were ideal, which probably accounted for the record attendance. A fine programme was gone through during the afternoon, and some splendid swimming was witnessed!. Men's 50 Yards Handicap (club members). —M'Lean, 1; Turner, 2; M'Kosker, 3. Schoolboys' Race (open handicap) — Hydcr, 1: Claridge, 2. Relay Race (open to al! schools in Wellington).—Milne andl Cousins, Maranui School, 1; Wright aud Summers, Clyde Quay, 2; Hurn and Powell, Clyde Quay, 3. Relay Race (combined, handicap).— Miss M. Allen and Roberts, 1; Miss P. Gibblin and M'Lennan, 2; Miss Elton and M'Plierson, 3. Ladies' Diving Competition (open). —Miss Elton, lj.Miss M. Allen, 2; Miss Ayling, 3. Men's Divine (open competition).— Roberts, 1; M'Komsky, 2 ; Footer, 3.' Ladies' 100 Yards Championship.— M. Allen, 1; Elton, 2. Committeemen's Race—H. Wilson, 1; M'Namara, 2; Martin, 3. In the evening a successful entertainment and euchre party was held. About one hundred couples were present. During the evening Mr. H. A. Wright, M.P., addressed the assembly on the advantages of swimming and its benefits, and presented! the winners of tho boys' races with their prizes, the first prize being a watch, which was the donation of Sir. H. Crengel, of Newtown. A particular feature of the afternoon's gathering was a very , fine exhibition of swimming by little Miss Nancy Wallace, a mite aged 6 years. Tho euchre party competitions resulted as under:—Ladies: Mrs. Martin, 1; Miss Kelly, 2. Men's: Mr. Oborn, 1; Mr O'Brien, 2. '
