The Rev. F. W. Islit, the well-known Methodist minister, formerly, secretary, of tlie New Zealand Alliance, died on Saturday from heart failure, says ai Press Association telegram from Dun*, edin. Tho late Mr. Isitt was born aii Bedford on October 3, 1846, and was educated at Bedford Grammar School and Richmond College. He engaged in business pursuits in Birmingham,; Manchester, and London from 1860. t<i 1868, and arrived in Auckland 'in 1870. He was in the active ministry' of tho Weslcyan Church from 1870 to 1879, and after eight years retired on account of ill-health, 1887-1906. He was a strenuous worker in the No< License cause, and was a vice-presi-dent of the New Zealand Alliance. He was appointed general secretary of tha Alliance in 1900, but had to retire on account of ill-health.
Mr. J. Flockton, who has been on a visit to Japan, returned to Wellington by the lliverina on Saturday. Mr. Frederic Shipman and j_lr. R. B--Grange wore among the passengers who' arrived from Sydney in the Rivermai on Saturday. Messrs. W. G. and F. H. Williams, of the Universal Film Supply Co., will leave Auckland this evening by the Niagara on a business visit to Sydney, Mr. F. W. Allen, also Mr. W. H. .Tudd, advertising manager, both of tha Vacuum Oil Company . Proprietary, Ltd., have arrived by the WimmeraJ from Melbourne, to conduot a vigorous advertising campaign throughout tha Dominion.
