Mr.. R. M'Kenna, Chancellar of the Exchequer, at the Empire Parliamentary Function, thanked • him for the consideration he- had shown New Zealand. • ENTERTAINED BY JMPERIAL AIR FLEET COMMITTEE Australian-New Zealand Cable Association. (Rec! November 9, 7.20 p.m.) London, November 9. The Executive j Committee of the Imperial Air Meet gave a banquet to Sir Joseph Ward at the Bath Club. Mr. Massey and Sir Thos. Mackenzie were present. Sir Joseph Ward, responding to ..the toast of his health, said that a marvellous evolution of aviation during the past three years bad -taken place.; Tho people were impressed with what the Imperial Committee had done to create interest in flying. British people must make up their minds that no combination of Powers should outvie them on sea,-land,, or air, He was strongly impressed by the necessity for a responsible Minister's visit to . the 'overseas Dominions. This would help in the question of Empire defence. It would be a great blunder to wait until peace came before they made up their minds what they wore going to, do in trqde matters. They must Tesolvo that •the Empire could bo made more selfcontained, and self-reliant, than it had been hitherto.
Lord Desborough (Chairman of the Air Fleet Committee), in proposing the health of Mr: Massey, paid a tribute to New Zealand's encouragement of tho Imperial Air Fle<st. The committee could assure them that ■ a large hodj of public opinion was growing hero that the oversea Dominions must he taken into consideration, and their views considered. A movement was now an foot to consolidate this opinion'. _ Mr. Massey, in reply, said that undoubtedly the overseas Dominions must hare n. voice in Imperial affairs in the future. FIFTH AUSTRIAN WAR LOAN {Renter's Telezram.^ Amsterdam) November 8. THe fifth Austrian War Loan will consist of 5J per centum bonds, redeemable at forty years, and C| per centum exchequer bills, repayable in 5£ years.
