The Hon. J. Allen went south last night to attend the A. and P. Show at Ohristchurch. He will bo back ill Wellington on Saturday tnoruing. Tho Hon. W. Fraser will return to Wellington from_ his South Islajid tour oil Sunday morning. Tho Hon. Dr. M'Nab leaves for Napier this morning. He will be present at the farewell ceremonies to Hawko's Bay Reinforcements, and thon ho goes across to Now Plymouth. I'horo ho will doliver a lecture on Sundav evening, and while in the district ho intends to inspoct tho tourist resorts on tho mountain. On Tuesday ho will bo present at tho opening of the new "luilay" freesing works at Wanganui. The Colonial Auxiliary Forcos LpngSorvico Medal has boon aivarded to tho late Captain C. W. B. Cribb, 18th (North Canterbury and Wostland) Regiment. Captain Cribb died of wounds while on active service. Advices received by cablegram from London state that 2nd Lieutenant Geoffroy Callender, of the Royal Flying Corps, who has been in' France for the last tiiroo months, has been slightly wounded in an aorial combat. Tho aviator was successful in bringing down his German'opponent. Lieutenant Callender is a son of Mr. W. Callender, general manager of the Bank of_ New : Zealand. He began his training in the Auckland school at Ivohimarama. Cabled advice was received yesterday by Mr. A. J. Dentice, of Tasman Street, that his son, Lance-Corporal A. L. Dentice, who has been lying dangerously ill in hospital at Rouen for the past seven weeks, is now progressing favourably. Mr. W. Gee, Chief Postmaster, Nelson, has received a cablegram from his sou, who was wounded in Franco on Septomber 25, to tho effect that tho latter is doing well at Brockenhurst Hospital. No particulars of the nature of the wound have yet been received. Among the passengers by the Main Trunk train from Auckland on Monday was Lieutenant Benzies, who has just returned from England by the Remuera. Lieutenant Benzies left New Zealand with the Main Body with | tho rank of corporal, and served with his unit on the Gallipoli Peninsula, till he wap wounded two days before the evacuation. His wound did not prove serious, and while in Egypt he gained his commission. Lieutenant Benzies then wont to France, where he was further wounded on July 3,_ at Armentieres,' this time more seriously, and •was taken to hospital in Lincoln, England, from which he has been invalided home. Lieutenant Benzies left for his home at Aporo, Nelson, last evening. < Mr. I. M. Bingham, engineerinfi cadet in the Public Works Department at Gisborne, has been transferred to the electrical branoh at Christchurch. Before leaving Gisborne he was presented by his fellow-officers with a cigarette-case and outfit.

Brown, who has been manager oFTIie D.I.C. sinoe the inception of the company's business in Christchurch some thirty-three years ago, announced at the monthly meeting of the heads of held in Christchurch on his intention of retiring fromJbis position. The retirement will .take effeot at the end of the present season, a.bout three months hence. Captain ' Casement G. Aiokin, N.Z.M.C., has been appointed to the Awapnni training camp, and will be attached to the New Zealand Expeditionary Force for service abroad. •
