SICKNESS IN CAMPS
A .DEATH AT FEATHERSTON. Sergeant Thomas O'Meara, 17th' Special Company, who has been suffering from corebro-spinal meningitis for soma time, died at the Featherston Military Hospital yesterday. Three other cases of cerebro-spinal meningitis are in the Featherston Hospital, two of them being reported to be progressing favourably. One case of this disease is convalescent at Trentham. A patient in hospital at Trentham is suspected of suffering from enteric fever. The epidemic of influenza at Trentham appears to be subsiding, but about 100 cases are being treated at the present time. There are also a few cases of measles. General Henderson, Director of Medical Services, stated yesterday that the inhaling treatment was still giving good! results. Of 249 cases of 6ore throats, colds, and influenza, treated last week, 219 were reported cured, and only 21 showed no change. In addition, 22 men who bad been reported! to be "carriers" of cerebrospinal meningitis were treated, and_ 15 of tli'em are- now clear of infection, while 7 are still under treatment.
